Buzz! RAMdisk for ipaq wm5?

Could you explain implementation of Ramdisk on WM5? I am a little bit confused about all the extRom and custom Roms you guys have for communicators. I understand that under wm2003 you had to use some Flash ROM stolen from OS as ramdisk? (really? so it was a rOmdisk?) Well, I am probably not getting it right, since I installed ramdisk32 on my ipaq hx4700 (standard pocket pc running wm5 and 128Mb RAM, 128ROM) and it hung up.

What area of memory is used for RAMDISK under wm5? Flash? RAM?What could be the reason for it not working for me?

Ok, I found some great explanation of RAMDISK memory usage model by TomasNM. So, it is real "RAM" disk.

I installed it for my ipaq. It did not run with original settings first, but it started ok after hard reset on a clean machine. I am not sure it works properly though, because amount of reported free memory did not change. it is appr 100Mb now out of 128Mb. I think that with 32Mb ramdisk the amount of free memory available should have decreased to 100-32=some 68Mb.

Actually after I opened some more applications, memory conflicts began, bringin device down...

Please help me to adapt it for ipaq hx4700. I understand that the key problem is to protect area of RAM used by RAMDISK from being overwritten by OS and other programs.

WM5 on hx4700 automatically finds amount of available RAM, (e.g. when I upgraded from 64 to 128Mb RAM it recognized bigger available amount immediately). I hope there is some way how to patch OS image to reserve some RAM size for use with ramdisk.

i know for BlueAngels you have to hex edit the rom file to tell it the amount of memory it can use on startup, but i have no idea what the values/locations ould be for your devic, sorry :/

yes, I understand that I need to patch rom image, but unfortunately patches for xda devices do not apply, could not find such hex sequences in my file.:sick:

hx4700 community desperately needs a WM5 ramdisk that would survive soft reset.
