Theme: Ocean mist 2.1
Original Author: Ed Merritt
Modifications: buzz_lightyear
URL: http://www.edmerritt.com, http://buzzdev.net

This is modified version of great Ocean Mist 2.0 theme by Ed Merritt.

This theme is compatible with WordPress 2.7.1.

OcenMist_2.1_shot.png

List of modifications & enhancements:
- the theme VALIDATES now
- many changes in css
- design made wider
- menu moved to the header (top right)
- only 1st level of menu is displayed
- aligned horizontal headers (main column & sidebar) right after the header
- header image change
- corners stuff simplified
- much better rendering on IE6 now
- other changes, which i even don't remember anymore :)

Please also note:
Original theme and also modified theme doesn't appear correctly in IE6.
Mainly there are images missing, however, modified theme at least keeps the design intact.

THANX to Ed Merritt for his nice original theme.

Other notes:
I use it with the "Night" color scheme. I didn't really care about those other ones :P but it is very easy to correct those other ones too, to suit your needs.

thanx for comments

Hi Buz,

I'm wondering if you could clarify a comment that I found you made to a user at another site recently, regarding the Ocean Mist 2.1 theme:

@Stephen
"i’ve made my wider by editing the css, it wasn’t any problem (check out my test site http://wp.buzzdev.net).
Maybe there is some better way to do it. Also if you increase the font size in default.css it will widen itself."

I'm using Ocean Mist 2.1 but would also like to make the blog wider (by narrowing the unused space between the blog content section/sidebar and the edge of the screen), as you have done.

To make the blog wider, without changing the font size, what part of CSS do I edit--client, default, ie6, ie7, presets?
the styles.css just contains some credits and no HTML.

Thank you,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,
i had to edit it at many places, which i can't tell you right now, because i have to check that out in the css code.
For sure almost in all of those css files.

I will post detailed list or diff on monday.

Thank you Buzz! I appreciate your timely response and look forward to reviewing the codes. I went through and looked at each section but wasn't sure what to change, so will be grateful for anything you can provide.

Hi Jeff,
basically on CSS level i changed default.css and i also added whole new file reset.css to ensure that there will display consistent in other browsers.

Also template files were changed a little bit.
Please see the screenshot below, which php files got changed.

I am also attaching a patch files or diffs of each changed file for your reference.
You can use that to apply my patches to original theme.

The screenshot was changed as well and all the stuff is packed together in attached .zip file below.

You are welcome Jeff...

BTW, if you look into the footer.php, there is reference to woopra.com real time tracking.
It doesn't contain any site ID, so it is actually universal script.
If you don't know, what Woopra is, then please check out http://woopra.com
I use it on my sites, because it provides REAL TIME web statistics (unlike google) and many more features especially for wordpress. It can show usernames browsing your site, you can chat with users online, etc. and it happens in real time...

Feel free to remove that part from the footer.

Here's that bit of the code in footer.php:
Code: Select all
<!-- Woopra Code Start -->
<script type="text/javascript">
var _wh = ((document.location.protocol=='https:') ? "https://sec1.woopra.com" : "http://static.woopra.com");
document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + _wh + "/js/woopra.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E"));
</script>
<!-- Woopra Code End -->

PS: i recommend the woopra, however i am not affiliate or whatever with them...

Hi buzz, thanks for all your work on this.

I just had a quick question and didn't know if you could help me out. I've got a Reviews page located here http://thistooismeaningless.com/reviews/. It uses the archives.php page template, but I can't figure out how to adjust the alignment. Currently the archived categories all sit on the far left edge of the body, and nowhere in the archives.php code, nor in the .css files can I see where to shift it to the right, especially since I'm a little afraid to mess with the default.css file too much. I'm afraid I don't know too much about the coding, but if you happened to know of a way to change that I would appreciate.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have the original Ocean Mist and it doesn't work well in IE. So, I downloaded your version, which works in IE,
but the drop down menus don't work. Any solution to this problem - or anything to take from your version and add to the original.

I IE the menu goes off to the side and/or the sidebar drops below the content depending on which version or IE I am using or which size screen the computer has.

I would appreciate any suggestions might resolve these problems.

THanks for your help.

Hey Buzz,
thanks for spending so much time in improving this great theme!

But I'm not satisfied with your improvements:
I installed the theme on our webspace and gave the URL to the CSS-Validator of the W3C and I get 22 Errors in default.css and a lot of warnings. Maybe you have some time to have a look.

The second problem I found out, is that the dropdown menus doesn't appear. Mabye you can have a look at my current testpage:
http://www.1837-auswanderer.de/wordpress/" rel="nofollow
'Historie' currently has a subpage. It is corretly displayed in the sidebar.

Just another question: Is it possible to move the nav-bar back on the Header-Image, where it was located on the original theme? :)

I tested it with the following browser: Safari 4, Firefox 3 and IE 6

A lot of questions... but thank you very much in advance!
